The talented Diego Sanches created a collection of pixel art animations for a 2d fighting game entitled Science Kombat for Superinteressante magazine.
Diego Sanches is an illustrator/designer born and raised São Paulo, Brazil. He started out working as an illustrator for Editora Abril, Brazil’s largest magazine publisher, and then occupied a Lead Artist position in a mobile games company, before going freelance full-time. He is also the co-creator of Quad Comics, an annual series of sci-fi comics set in a post-apocalyptic scenario.
This series of Science Kombat 8-bit gifs showcase 8 famous scientists turned into cartoon video game fighters, each with their own attack animations, and one final boss: the Divinity. “The idea of the game is to make a link between the “powers” of each character and his or her discoveries and inventions,” says Diego. Of course, the “powers” are not exactly realistic – Stephen Hawking summons black holes, Newton’s gravity power will hit the opponent with apples, while Darwin has the power of, well, evolution.
We’d love to see more scientists added to the roster of this 2d fighting game, though. How about Carl Sagan? Or maybe Neil Degrasse Tyson?
